Five years ago, I had a Creative Writing professor who responded to our bad stories the same way: he would never say, “This is wrong.” He would say, “How can we make this work?” From then on, that’s how I’ve viewed critique. Never kill an idea. Help it become its best self.

The above quote struck a chord with me from the first moment I read it. If I could sum up my editing style in one paragraph, that would be it. I never kill an idea. Some stories may need us to pull back the extra layers to get to the obscured beauty beneath, but it’s there. I can see it. We can make it work. And I use the word “we” because we are a team.
